Father first, Leader always.  ·  Official campaign for Portsmouth School Board

Platform

The Reality, and the Plan.

This campaign is about raising standards, demanding results, and putting students first. Here are the five commitments Denzel will fight for from day one.

1. Fix the Reading Crisis. Immediately

Too many of our kids cannot read on grade level. Instead of fixing it, we’ve normalized it.

Denzel will push for mandatory reading benchmarks by grade level, proven literacy programs (not trends), and accountability for results at every level. Because if a child can’t read, nothing else we’re doing matters.

2. Restore Accountability at Every Level

Right now there are too many decisions being made with too little transparency and not enough consequences. That ends here.

Denzel will demand clear public reporting on spending and outcomes, performance accountability for leadership, and real oversight, not rubber-stamping. If we’re asking taxpayers to invest in our schools, we owe them results.

3. Support Teachers Like It Actually Matters

We say we value teachers, but our actions don’t always match.

Denzel will fight for competitive pay that retains strong educators, better classroom support and resources, and a system that listens to teachers instead of ignoring them. The honest truth is when teachers win, students win.

4. Prepare Students for Real Life, Not Just Graduation

We are sending too many students across the stage without a real plan for what comes next. That’s not success. That’s failure with a ceremony.

Denzel will expand career and technical education pathways, workforce partnerships with local industries, and opportunities for students to graduate with real skills. Every student deserves a path: college, career, or both.

5. Bring Order Back to the Classroom

Learning cannot happen in chaos.

Every child deserves a classroom where they can actually learn. Denzel will prioritize safe and structured school environments, consistent discipline policies, and a culture where education, not disruption, is the focus.

This is bigger than politics. This is about whether we’re willing to tell the truth about where we are and do the work to fix it.
